The Israeli Knesset Honors "Alliance – Kol Israel Haverim"The highlight of the 150th anniversary celebrations of "Alliance-KIAH" was a special assembly of the Israeli Knesset honoring the organization. On May 25th, the Knesset called for a special meeting of their Education Committee and conducted an honorary ceremony at the Knesset auditorium hosted by the Chairman and followed by a special assembly in honor of "Alliance". 400 people attended including the organization's directors, staff, graduates and friends. In honor of the occasion, we had distinguished guests from abroad, including a French delegation of "Alliance" Paris, representatives from Morocco and the United States and friends from around the world. | The "Alliance" School in Lebanon The first attempt at building an "Alliance" school in Lebanon was in 1869, but it was not successful. Finally, in 1878 an all girls school was founded in Beirut followed by an all boys school in 1880. What was unique about these schools, was that the rabbis didn't object to an "Alliance" education and they even allowed their own children to study there.Read more Secondary school, Beirut, Lebanon, 1909 | The KIAH School for the Deaf at the "Tzamid" Festival and "Hearing Day 2010" "Tzamid" (Bracelet) is an abbreviation of the term special needs.The School participated in the "Tzamid" Festival and the annual "Hearing Day" at the Philip Leon Community Center in Jerusalem. We had a presentation showcasing to the visitors and residents of the neighborhoods what we do at the School and what is unique about us. Read more

| "Memizrach Shemesh" goes to Budapest, Hungary! A joint delegation of two groups from our "Student Leadership" program, one from Jerusalem and the other from New York, visited another peer group based in Budapest for a week of social Judaism. Over the course of the past year, all three groups studied independently about social issues relevant to their community, dealt with their own Jewish identity and became active in their neighborhoods.

Isabel Friedman's contribution to promote students with learning disabilities We are proud to announce a special donation made by Ms. Isabelle Friedman to the Sha'ar School Network. Ms. Friedman, formerly the President of the "American Friends of Alliance", visited Israel last May in honor of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the organization. Ms. Friedman, who has been involved in the Sha'ar School Network for several years now, announced that she will donate $100,000 to two educational projects operated by Sha'ar.Read more | |
