Mobile VoIP – The Time is Now

A Note from Yair Golan, VP Marketing

According to Ovum, "Mobile operators must embrace VoIP" (11 May, 2010). We couldn't agree more.

In-Stat forecasts that this young market will grow from $900 million in 2009 to a $35 billion market in 2013. With service providers, online VoIP providers and up and coming start-ups already offering mobile VoIP services, there are a lot of contenders for this potential revenue.

To date, several mobile service providers have tried to stem the Mobile VoIP tide with regulatory, legal and pricing tactics. Worldwide regulation and litigation suggest these actions are considered anti-competitive. On the other hand several operators (such as 3 and Telefonica/O2) have decided to ride the mobile VoIP tide, winning themselves both revenue and positive consumer sentiment.

We at VocalTec believe that mobile operators need to act today to ensure they take a part of the mobile VoIP revenue pie. Operators should seek ways to offer subscribers a mobile VoIP experience today, even before migrating to a full VoIP network. Our Mobile VoIP and Convergence offering is targeted at doing just that.

With VocalTec’s Convergence platform and services such as Plug ‘n Talk and MultiLine, operators can leverage existing network resources to address subscribers Mobile VoIP needs.

What do you think about mobile VoIP? I'll be happy to hear your thoughts and further discuss this topic.
